Suncoast Voices for Children provides for the unmet needs of abused, abandoned, and neglected children in Pinellas and Pasco Counties.
They are located in the Pinellas County Child Protection Investigation Division and work closely with child protection investigators, case managers, and community partners to keep children out of the dependency system, meet their needs while in the system, and give them what they need to succeed once outsider of the system.
Children's Needs
While it is sometimes necessary for safety reasons to remove children from parents, the disruption to the children's lives is immeasurable. The disruption is reduced when a safe extended family member or friend can care for the child. In the last year, SVC served more than 3,000 children by providing beds and safety items to support these placements and stabilize families. Voices also provides access to camps, extracurricular activities, laptops, school supplies and more for children experiencing foster care.
In 2020, Voices became the first independent organization to offer Opportunity Passport, a financial education and savings match program designed by the Annie E. Casey Foundation specifically for young people who have experienced foster care! Graduates are assigned a financial coach to help them reach their goals. They are also eligible for a $3,000 saving match funded by United Way Suncoast to use for cars, apartments, education expenses, paying off debt, starting a business and more!
Many children don't have time to pack a bag before being displaced from their home or removed from a dangerous situation and leave with nothing but what they are wearing. Voices collects new and gently used clothes for children in crisis to have access to clothes 24/7. Their clothing closets provide immediate access to four outfits, toiletries, and other supplies to children who have been removed from their home for safety.
On Monday, July 28, 2025, six local non-profits presented their mission to our Board of Directors and guest judge (Clayton Clemens with Project Focus).
It was a powerful and emotional night for everyone, as all six organizations are worthy of a spotlight. Connections were made and we believe strengthening relationships within the non-profit community will result in more lives being impacted with support and resources.
This year's other presenters:
Emerald M Therapeutic Riding Center
JIA - Jackson in Action 83 Foundation
Please consider learning more, volunteering, or supporting their missions.
Project Focus is a non-profit organization established to support and provide programs and services through a unique learning community to assist young adults with disabilities.
Project Focus benefits the existing programs of Focus Academy, Focus Café, Focus Forward, as well as new and future initiatives for young adults with developmental disabilities.
Established in 2013, Focus Academy provides innovative charter middle school, high school, and transition programs for students in sixth grade through age 22 that infuses social skills therapies into the curriculum. All students participate in drama therapy and in visual and performing arts classes, as well as strong academic classes that are tailored to individual learning needs. The Transition Program builds on the success of the high school, providing students that have completed 12th grade additional training in job skills and independent living skills.
Located inside the Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex, the Café is a fully functioning non-profit business offering beverages and snacks to patrons and the public. It is staffed by Focus Academy Transition Program students, who learn valuable skills such as inventory, customer service, using a cash register, and more.
